Current Information:Age-29 Born-Leytonstone On 15th October, 1915, 3rd Grenadier Guards of 2nd Guards Brigade, Guards Division moved into the front line trenches opposite the Hohenzollern Redoubt at Loos. The Battle of Loos had only just drawn to an end and there was still a considerable amount of shelling which made it a difficult relief especially as the enemy were targeting the communication trenches along which 3rd Grenadier Guards had to make their way to their new positions. Once there they began digging a sap to link up with 1st Coldstream Guards so as to be able to launch an attack the following morning. However, continued heavy artillery fire meant that this attack was unable to take place. Throughout the 16th October and 17th October they remained in these trenches suffering over 60 casualties until relieved on the evening of the 17th October. |
